Purpose
Led by Queen’s University Belfast, we are leading in digital technology and data innovation to create sustainable economic growth for generations to come.
Significantly expanding our facilities at the Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT) in the Titanic Quarter’s Innovation District, and building on our cross-Faculty stakeholder relationships in Schools of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS), Queen's Business School, School of Biological Sciences (SBS), Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences (MDBS), Momentum One Zero utilises QUB expertise in cyber security, health and agri-food and beyond to tackle the world’s toughest challenges across multiple sectors.

Context
The Belfast Region City Deal unlocks £1billion of transformative co-investment which will deliver more than 20 highly ambitious projects and programmes, create up to 20,000 new, and better, jobs, and help make the region a global investment destination over the next decade and beyond. We are building on the legacy of the Good Friday Agreement to deliver on the peace dividend for Northern Ireland.
Momentum One Zero is a £70 million-pound project within the Deal, which aims to transform Northern Ireland’s digital economy by substantially increasing the digital innovation activity taking place in our region.
Queen’s has a proud history of conducting innovative, impactful, and world-leading research and innovation that has positively changed people’s lives. Partnerships like the Belfast Region City Deal are key to helping achieve this because of their capacity and capability to build new relationships at scale and attract investment.
We will anchor the creation of a distinctive Innovation District, from central Belfast extending to Titanic Quarter.
Approach
Aligning with the economic priorities in Northern Ireland and the UK, Momentum One Zero will develop industry partnerships building on multidisciplinary research and innovation excellence in ‘Secure Connected Intelligence’.
Through growth of capacity and capability in our academic and engineering teams, we will equip the regional economy to grasp the opportunities of the data revolution, serving companies large and small which have the potential to grow and diversify based on digital innovation.
